The Bar of Balaam.

An Emoji Devotional for Friday, 5 June 2026

Topic: The Bar of Balaam.

Highlight:  "What sorrow awaits them! For they follow in the footsteps of Cain, who killed his brother. Like Balaam, they deceive people for money. And like Korah, they perish in their rebellion."  Jude 1:11

In Scripture, Balaam represents a dangerous spiritual baseline: a person who knows the absolute truth but desperately searches for a loophole to bypass it for personal profit. This is the blind pursuit of financial reward, influence, or status at the absolute expense of doing what is right. Balaam wanted King Balak’s gold so badly that he kept returning to God, asking for permission to do something God had already explicitly said "No" to.

• In what ways are we living like Balaam today?

•  Is there a "King Balak" in your life—a wealthy influencer, a demanding boss, or a toxic culture—tempting you to compromise on God’s clear instructions for material gain?

When King Balak of Moab realized he couldn't force Balaam to curse the Israelites directly, a more sinister plot was hatched. Because Balaam was physically blocked by God from uttering a curse, he advised Balak to trip Israel up from within. He taught the king to tempt the Israelites into idolatry and sexual immorality, effectively causing Israel to bring a curse upon themselves.

To attempt these curses, Balak took Balaam to three specific high places in the land of Moab (east of the Jordan River and north of the Dead Sea), searching for any angle where compromise might win. 🏔️👁️

"But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin."  Revelation 2:14

Please, do not live by the Bar of Balaam. Do not measure your success by the gold you can gain through compromised grace. Instead, live entirely within the circle of God's will for your life, because aligning with Him positions you for eternal security. Remember that Balaam and Balak still lives in our communities. Pray God guide and protect your family from the Balaam and Balak of life. If you are one of Balak and Balaam of life, please repent today and live by the standard of Jesus Christ. For God seeks for a true worshipper who will serve him in Spirit and in Truth.

"And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever."  1 John 2:17

Prayer:Lord, guard my heart against the love of money and status. Give me the courage to accept Your "No" and the wisdom to spot the subtle traps of compromise. Amen.
